I found this framing useful for temporary email: don’t treat it as a secret identity or a long-term account. Treat it as a short-lived inbox for a task that has a clear finish line.

Good uses are things like:

webinar or event access gated reports, ebooks, checklists, or downloads newsletters during a research sprint trying a tool or demo you don’t plan to keep coupons, deal alerts, or low-risk community notifications Bad uses are anything where the address becomes a key: account recovery, passwordless login, payments, travel bookings, healthcare, government, legal records, or anything you may need to prove later.

The part I like is the “one task, one inbox” approach. Instead of dumping everything into one disposable address, give each short-lived task its own receiving lane, then close it when the job is done. If you need future access, use an alias or an email address you actually own.

Curious how others handle this: do you use temporary email, email aliases, a separate inbox, or just give out your main address and clean up later? Disclosure: I’m associated with SmailPro, so I’m sharing this as a discussion starter rather than a neutral recommendation.
